Austri Brugghús
Identity, illustrations and packaging for Austri Brugghús, the first brewery in the east of Iceland. The name Austri is the name of a dwarf from Norse Mythology (Ásatrú) and it essencially means “East”.
In Ásatrú it is believed that Óðinn, Vilji and Vé created the world from the body of the Jötunn Ýmir. They took him apart and from his head they created the sky. Under each corner of the sky there sits a dwarf holding the sky for eternity — they are called Austri, Vestri, Suðri and Norðri, meaning: East, West, South and North.
The branding takes inspiration from the mythology of Austri and the domain of the dwarfs, the mountains. East Iceland has many fjords and endless mountains, and so each type of beer is named after a mountain top and a illustration of it - if you look closely you can see that parts of Austri live in the mountains.
