Association Cinécran - Góa
Góa for the festival Rencontres Cinéma Européen - film festival where Iceland was in focus
In the old Icelandic calendar we have the month of Góa - witch marks the end of cold dark winter months with hopes of a mild spring. In folktales it’s written about the tradition of housewives to go out on the first day of Góa and welcome her with reciting this verse:
Velkomin sértu, góa mín,
og gakktu í bæinn;
vertu ekki úti í vindinum
vorlangan daginn.
Welcome, my dear Góa,
please step inside;
don’t stay out in the wind,
on a long spring day.
